When the Mother country is in danger

Mr. Fidel Castro Ruz, President of the Republic of Cuba.

Dear Sir president:

A deep preoccupation by the situation that crosses our town moves to me to write to him so that you put attention to my reasons, and she gives suitable answer him.

Although much simple people excuse you saying that she does not know the truth than is happening, I I do not share that opinion. What is what you do not know the unfortunate situation in which almost 11 million of Cuban live which they are in the Island?  I do not try, then, to make discover him what already you know, but to deal with which it sees from new perspective the same realities.

The socialist block:

By more than 30 years our country subscribed a type of policy whose angular stone was the violence. This policy with the presence to only 90 miles of a powerful and tenacious enemy, the United States of North America was justified. The form to do in front of this powerful enemy was to put to us under the aegis of the power that per years faced to him, the Soviet Union, happening to comprise of countries that formed the socialist block led by that one superpower.

While the Soviet Union helped massively and continuously our economy and supported our arms race decisively, Cuba was falling in a state of internal violence and deep repression. Outside our country we were ourselves surrounded in a series of global confrontations placed that us in the vortex of the planetary violence. Through the war and the propaganda we became masterful and protagonists from the confrontation in diverse parts of the world, but that policy was without use, without effectiveness, with the disappearance of the Soviet Union and the socialist block. By time that one seemed an effective policy enough, but in fact it turned out to be a mistaken policy.

Using inside and outside our country hatred, the division and the violence, the suspicion and enemistad, has been the main cause of our past and present misfortunes.

Now it is when we see more clearly it. The hypertrophy of the more and more powerful state left to our town in the defenselessness and silence. The absence and nonexistence of freedom spaces so that healthy critics and alternative criteria arose made us roll by the risky hill of the political volitismo and the social intolerance. Their fruits were hypocrisy and the dissimulation, the insincerity and the lie, and a general state of fright that affected to all in the Island.

That type of policy ruined our economy, we lost the sense than they are worth the things and what he is worse, the people. The scorn by the human life is been from the violence and the repression. We got used to not gaining the bread with the sweat of our forehead and living with the greater dependancy with respect to the aid that the others gave us. We have lived in the lie, deceiving and deceiving to us. We have made the evil and that evil has turned upside down against us, on us.

All we are responsible, but nobody is it in greater proportion than you. I have heard often say, that still nearest you, they are scared to him. I have heard say, that their own children have even been rejected by you when they have tried to say these truths to him.

I know that the catholic bishops of Cuba, have at least tried to reason with you on these questions, without being listened. I want neither I can, in brings back to consciousness, to remain by the more time in silence and for that reason I speak, because fodder to him that still could be rectified the course, as you so many times proclaim to be his desires, to the mother country.

At the moment, if you wanted, you could exist the opportunity to obtain negotiated a Pacific adjustment and in our country through a national dialog that considers the different tendencies within the Communist Party, the dissident groups within the Island, and including also the Cubans of the diáspora. We could take step to a popular consultation, frees and democratic, that in a climate of respect and tolerance allowed to hear the voice of all our town. If you headed that process, respecting totally the purity of the democratic game, would avoid the blood bath that the present circumstances augur and foretell, and unfortunately will make inevitable.

Those compatriots ours that follow still it you not will deny to participate and to preserve that process if you are support the one who it.

I am sure that all the governments of the world, its present adversaries, still more I am even sure that all the men of good will, inside and outside Cuba, will support that step. I am afraid, nevertheless, that if you do not make a fast decision and in that sense, will be you in the memory of our town, still of which by so many years they have been its followers, like the most unfortunate governor of the history of Cuba.

Kind town

On the other hand, the town of Cuba is kind and knows to be generous, and will know to perhaps recognize and to be thankful for that have freed you it of the horrors of the civil war or the unnecessary prolongation of present the desperate state of the nation, forgetting all the previous offenses to him.

Long ago another Cuban priest, the father Felix Varela, wrote these wise people and brave words that now I do totally mine: “When the mother country is in danger and the insensible indolencia of some and execrable perfidia of another cause that the town sleeps and are come near to gigantic steps to a precipice, he is imprudent to raise the voice and to notice the danger?  That is the prudence of the weak ones, to my does not know it heart.�
