Letter to Juan Carlos Herrera

Loved brother Juan Carlos, créeme that for me, haberte known was one of the events that have marked my political life more. Those words yours of breath and exhortation to follow in our fight, without importarte that strongly was guarded by frightful inescrupulous guards.  That attitude yours woke up the admiration and the respect that many Cuban worthy ones we have to you.  That satisfaction I felt when listened to your words by Martí Radio and it did not stop motivating the fact to me, that your expositions agreed with mine in an interview who I maintained with Mr. Thomas Hamm, one of the civil servants of the Office of Interests of the United States in Havana.

Juan Carlos, créeme, it was not easy for me to include/understand the ups and downs that to you the life presents/displays. He was terrible to listen to the news of the tragic accident that involved your family and where you lost part of your dear beings. Néstor Rodriguez Louvain, in times of the night from Havana presented the news, but to that hour it was impossible to start off for Guantánamo, because as you know, at night it is very difficult to secure a transport for there. Nevertheless, in hours in the morning of the following day, next to other already estebábamos brothers of fight there, for acompañarte at that difficult moment, like a single family.

That one prophetic day things happened, that by the unsuitable thing of the moment, I preferred not decirte, but is good that today it knows. When I arrived at your town, I still found some people, that without conocerte personally, they knew that eras and because you were imprisoned and they did not leave of admirarte. A gentleman, of about 50 years, of which they throw passage with a particular motorcycle when finding out that I went towards velorio of your family I do not doubt in moving without acquiring a cent, and to take leave with the phrase of which “many we have its same thoughts�, that were something that affected to me.

when returning that one day of Guantánamo, I asked the Writing Council of the magazine “To appear again� that they included as Publishing a small tribute to your trajectory and we would also give the condolence you by all brothers that could not attend the military funeral honorses of your relatives.

This gentleman I do not doubt nor a minute to it. Lamentably he was in Cuba, being I in Havana when the past 4 of June we tried to realize in Havana in recollection to the events of the Place of Tianammen, but unfortunately the activity was aborted by a police operative fort. In the end we had to finish the same in house of Robert Vantage point. Despite it left instructions so that I moved to Guantánamo and she gave the things to him to your wife. By such reason, God by means of, I hope that if this letter arrives, goes accompanied of that humble one, but generous donation.

At the moment me impressions come to mind first from analysis that we did in an occasion of the aid to the political prisoners, never forgets me, that we debated that was the best thing, than if cigarettes, tobaccos, sugar, milk in dust, etc. Also on aid in money to family, how it would be the best way to be made it arrive, in short, thousand of ideas, that with time we have realized that nobody is put of acuedo, with the consequent negative results for our cause. Although itself being a faithful and staunch defender, of which the aid that arrives from the outside, must be priority for the political prisoners and their relatives in charge of the preparation of jabas that takes to them during the visits. Lamentably also I consider what arrives from I exile worse and still, which very small soon distributes itself between that they represent to us with dignity between grates.

Brother, since it was in the University I indicated my political positions you would answer the regime, but from my incorporation like Young official member of the Cuban Movement by the Democracy I have matured much politically and included to cabalidad that the individual form of fight is untenable and the incorporation to a determined political party, movement or alliance are the unique forms to obtain substantial changes within the Island.

I hope that the European Union knows what it is making when rising the sanctions, the fact that from some time the Security of the State officially does not mention many activists, in spite of maintaining them under monitoring, is not a change of attitude, but a way to be enriching the files of each of us, soon to encausar to us.

I comment to you that in several you soothe diplomatic I have spoken of you, and of the necessity that you, at least, must extra to be suffered.  No effort in this sense will never be in vain

I do not dare to continue writing, créeme that it would almost have for a book, but do not want to commit indiscretions, I only ask to you that from time to time to me you continue calling by telephone or in its defect you write to me.
