Grito de Zapata

Santiago of Cuba, 07 of June - (www.miamiprogressive.com) the Shout (1893), painting of famous Norwegian painter Edvard Munch, considered like the first expresionista picture. The removed painting of the museum of Oslo, later reappears contextuada to the Cuban reality 117 years.

In the painting a very thin person is observed, who horrified, with its implora shout to the world mercifully by its salvation. The virtuosity plastic artist of this irredenta Leonardo city Frank Perez locates, it behind the tenebrous grates of a prison, obstinate with fury to the bars.  By means of the installation technique, it is managed to mark the difference of the original painting of Munch.

The painting is exposed from day 23 of May, in the exhibition of inaugurated plastic arts in our city, with the intention of commemorates to the first trimester of the decease of the Cuban opponent, Orlando Zapata Tamayo. The denominated exhibition “Abriendo Doors of Freedom�, was sponsored by the Patriotic Meeting Cuban Felix Varela, the Party of the Town and Progressive Arc.

Boarded on the subject, it reveals us to the author that she red-baptize to the work as “the Shout of Zapata�, and comments to us:

“The idea got passionate to Me to use the work of Munch and to insert it in the context of the Cuban reality. Nevertheless, it was not until the 24 of February that comes the inspiration to materialize it, after knowing the news the avoidable and cruel death of Orlando Zapata Tamayo.

With her I wanted to shape, not only the existential solitude and shortages which the prisoners are put under of bring back to consciousness, but also the uprooting to which is subjugated, when moving away them of its relatives and places where they live. The pretension of with this work is to take to the visual plane the reclamations of freedom and social justice for our mother country, that the political prisoners do from the bars of their cells.

It is a call of attention to the international community, so that next to us, shouts by the aim of the haltings and arbitrary imprisonments, the threats, the aggressions against the members of the emergent Cuban civil society and against all violation to the human rights. This is my contribution in fight to break the totalitarianism and a form to render tribute to which from his reduced space in prison, still they fight by the freedom of Cuba�.

This artist of the plastic one is author also of the work “Seed of freedom�, which at the time became symbol of the Project Varela.

In the inauguration of the exhibition a telephone call to Mrs Reina Luisa Tamayo Danger was realized, mother of the Orlando martyr Zapata Tamayo, to pass on support and solidarity to him before the harassment and monitoring that is put under on the part of the Security of the State.
